My Turn: Why not acknowledge good schools?

She is a cheerleader for her school who avoids taking an honest look at its shortcomings. If you avoid identifying shortcomings, you cannot address fixing them. Achievement is not connected to education spending at all; multiple studies have shown this. People of my father's generation who attended one room school houses recieved better education than students today. People of my generation recieved better education than students today as well though not the quality of the generations previous. The #1 thing missing in our educational system is also the #1 thing missing in society, discipline. The lack of standards and willingness to hold ALL individuals to those standards causes much of our problems. Parents have abdicated their roles as parents leaving schools to raise their children. Unfortunately, the schools have also given up on real discipline.

Eddie Bauer closing mall store

Thirteen years after it opened, the Eddie Bauer store at Tippecanoe Mall in Lafayette will soon be closing its doors.

The Bellevue, Wash.-based company has decided not to renew the lease on its 5,500-square-foot space in the Lafayette mall and will close the store on Jan. 25.

"As part of Eddie Bauer's annual review of real estate lease holdings, we look at each of our stores in the U.S. and Canada to determine whether we should review existing leases. We have decided not to renew the existing lease at Tippecanoe Mall," the company said in a statement.

"Leases are evaluated on several different levels including, but not limited to, the placement of new stores, current store sales and square foot performance, the competitive makeup of the retail environment, market trends and overall economics."

Established in 1920, Eddie Bauer is a specialty retailer that sells casual sportswear and accessories that relate to an outdoor lifestyle.

Modern electronic items need wraparound chaperones for style or security or a combination thereof. A look at how were dressing some of the trendy gadgets these days. That jogger has an iphone! At the Sharper Image in Scottsdale, Andrew Ortiz has something for joggers who want to stay on the information superhighway.

Edwards Camp: Hill Can Run, Can't Hide

On the heels of Barack Obama's landslide victory in the South Carolina Democratic Primary, The Political Machine contacted the Edwards campaign for comment. Chief campaign adviser Joe Trippi let it be known that his candidate will not be going gently into Super Tuesday's good night, talked about Hillary's flight from South Carolina, and those Clinton "Robocalls" that showed up last night. Let's see how the "grown-ups" do it.

I reached Trippi on my crummy cell phone, and there was a whole lot of noise on his end, and I lost the signal halfway through and had to call him back, and my stupid pen ran out of ink, but here's what I got.

The Political Machine: What did you think of Hillary leaving South Carolina as the polls were closing?Joe Trippi: Hey, she can run, but she can't hide.

UK 2017: under surveillance

On Friday, this study, entitled A Report on the Surveillance Society, was picked over by a select group of government mandarins, politicians, police officers and academics in Edinburgh. It is unequivocal in its findings, with its first sentence reading simply: "We live in a surveillance society." The information commissioner, Richard Thomas, endorses the report. He says: "Today, I fear that we are, in fact, waking up to a surveillance society that is already all around us."
