| Indefinite leave of absence a tricky situation
To determine when a distribution may be made, the employer must review the terms and conditions of its plan document, said attorney Bob Goldberg. The document will specify when a participant is eligible to receive funds and how much the person receives, he said. ---------- Carrie Mason-Draffen is a columnist for Newsday, a Tribune Co. newspaper. Edwards Camp: Hill Can Run, Can't Hide
On the heels of Barack Obama's landslide victory in the South Carolina Democratic Primary, The Political Machine contacted the Edwards campaign for comment. Chief campaign adviser Joe Trippi let it be known that his candidate will not be going gently into Super Tuesday's good night, talked about Hillary's flight from South Carolina, and those Clinton "Robocalls" that showed up last night. Let's see how the "grown-ups" do it. I reached Trippi on my crummy cell phone, and there was a whole lot of noise on his end, and I lost the signal halfway through and had to call him back, and my stupid pen ran out of ink, but here's what I got. The Political Machine: What did you think of Hillary leaving South Carolina as the polls were closing?Joe Trippi: Hey, she can run, but she can't hide.

Ward Churchill, ACTA and Public Opinion
Those who wish to preserve academic freedom, and I do, would do well to incorporate Neal's concept of responsibility and Eismeier's invocation of Shils. Both are necessary elements of the fix if you want ‘buy in' from a skeptical public. Hunter BrownHamilton College, ‘76 hb, at 10:40 am EDT on June 9, 2006 .
Make Your Competitive Analysis Stand Out in Your Business Plan
Before writing the competitive analysis, first identify both direct and indirect competitors. You can locate listings of local businesses, search the Internet for online competition, and seek out mail order businesses that might offer competition. However, the best way to create a strong competitive analysis is to visit your competitors, study their prices, understand their customer base, and uncover the services they offer. Talk to other customers and determine from friends and neighbors their likes and dislikes about these competitors. Engage vendors and seek out information in business journals. Explore online -- be a test customer and order a product to get a sense of the company's customer service, examine return policies, and determine the company's protocol when problems occur.
In Trinity, a slice of hamburger heaven
Craving a heaping helping of something fresh, hot, a bit greasy? These guys thought so. By MICHAEL KRUSE, Times Staff Writer Published January 27, 2008 TRINITY -- In the rear corner of the Trinity Village Center is a Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries, and on the wall inside is a bulletin board, and on the bulletin board are a bunch of note cards. What's written on those note cards is where this story starts. "Is it wrong," one customer wonders, "that I love Five Guys more than my girlfriend?" Another: "Five Guys reminds me of a magical castle in the sky filled with fries." And another: "You get it. And I don't even know what 'it' is." The Five Guys here on State Road 54 has been open since late October and is the first of a handful set to open in Pasco and Hernando counties in the coming months and years.
Jittery retailers seek answers in wee hours
One of the biggest shopping days of the year got off to a record early start on Friday with stores such as Kohl's and J.C. Penney opening as early as 4 a.m., a mark of how aggressively retailers are pursuing shoppers in what is predicted to be the slowest-growth holiday retail season in five years. Monica Zepeda, 25, an assembly-line worker from Chicago, began shopping with out-of-town guests at 5 a.m. The group snapped up bargains on a Sony DVD player and Nautica jogging suits. Getting up before dawn was worth it, she said. "I'm trying to spend less," she said. "Gas hits the pocketbook real hard." .
