We will be having a private screening of the much acclaimed The Business of Being Born. We are really excited to be offering this for the Bellani community. Ok, so we're even more excited about the fresh popcorn (yes, we're renting a popcorn machine, Kelly is obsessed with popcorn) and refreshments that are complimentary for all that attend. For those of you who haven't heard what all the buzz is about, here is a little bit about the movie: This highly acclaimed film from Executive Producer Ricki Lake and Director Abby Epstein. From the Synopsis: "Birth: it's a miracle. A rite of passage. A natural part of life. But more than anything, birth is a business. Compelled to find answers after a disappointing birth experience with her first child, actress Ricki Lake recruits filmmaker Abby Epstein to examine and question the way American women have babies.

Mike Huckabee is no Ronald Reagan conservative.Reagan advocated abolishing the Department of Education and similar unconstitutional federal bureaucracies.Huckabee not only wants to maintain Jimmy Carter's DOE, but expand it into nation building with a field office in Baghdad!Said Huckabee, "We have to stop using our active-duty forces for nation building and rely on other government agencies for building schools, hospitals, roads, sewage treatment, water filtration, electricity, legal and banking systems. The State Department should be in charge and coordinate with the relevant departments of energy, housing, education, treasury, justice and transportation."As Arkansas governor, Huckabee raised taxes while proposing another form of "foreign aid" state tuition scholarships to illegal alien children. And Huckabee, like Al Gore and Charlie Crist, wants more bureaucracy to cap carbon emissions, further choking America's economy. We've been down this road before.

Q-C bargain hunters cash in
Electronics items are a popular item among shoppers this holiday season as witnessed by the long, long lines at the Davenport Best Buy.6:45 a.m. Katie Meyer of Davenport called in while waiting to check out at Menard’s. She expects to be in line for another hour before reaching the check out register. Her prize? Cordless headphones and silverware. Katie says shoppers are using garbage cans on wheels as shopping carts as all carts are in use. And apparently the Grinches are out in force as some have resorted to raiding others’ shopping carts for those hard-to-get items.7:15 a.m. Jennifer DeWitt stood in the checkout line at the Davenport Target store for 40 minutes. She’s going to dump off her items in her car and then walk to Best Buy as their lot is full. Jennifer says big screen televisions, Christmas decorations, toys and electronics are the big purchase items.
Spence and Braustein: Coming to Terms with the Iraq War
Some people, automatically, assume that, if people were jailed or mowed down, they must have done something wrong. What about the US civil rights movement? For anyone to say that there is as much violence in any American city as in US war activities, in which an inordinate amount of people are jailed and mowed down, is nonsensical. At least hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in Iraq over the past few years and, by some estimates, the death toll is tabulated to be more than 1,168,000 [1]. This certainly is not the case in NY, Boston, Atlanta, LA or DC. In addition, many people, including those affiliated with the US military, completely ignore references to Halliburton (a company in which Dick Cheney has stock [2]) and war profiteering. Why do you think that the entire infrastructure was bombed out? Why do you think that at least hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars and a billion dollars worth of weapons "disappeared" in Iraq [3]? How could this happen under military watch unless there were perhaps some sort of calculated collusion and/or gross negligence? Simultaneously, young children and other civilians are dying from contaminated water and malnourishment every day in Iraq as an indirect outcome from this war.
