Spence and Braustein: Coming to Terms with the Iraq War
Some people, automatically, assume that, if people were jailed or mowed down, they must have done something wrong. What about the US civil rights movement? For anyone to say that there is as much violence in any American city as in US war activities, in which an inordinate amount of people are jailed and mowed down, is nonsensical. At least hundreds of thousands of people have been killed in Iraq over the past few years and, by some estimates, the death toll is tabulated to be more than 1,168,000 [1]. This certainly is not the case in NY, Boston, Atlanta, LA or DC. In addition, many people, including those affiliated with the US military, completely ignore references to Halliburton (a company in which Dick Cheney has stock [2]) and war profiteering. Why do you think that the entire infrastructure was bombed out? Why do you think that at least hundreds of millions of taxpayers' dollars and a billion dollars worth of weapons "disappeared" in Iraq [3]? How could this happen under military watch unless there were perhaps some sort of calculated collusion and/or gross negligence? Simultaneously, young children and other civilians are dying from contaminated water and malnourishment every day in Iraq as an indirect outcome from this war.

Hardware Pornographic Film Industry Still Firmly Behind HD DVD
Despite Blu-ray Disc's momentum, adult video still likes HD DVD Despite all the talk regarding Blu-ray Disc's momentum after Warner Bros. gave its support exclusively to the format, the high-definition format war is far from over. With the overall high-definition market barely a drop in the bucket when compared to DVD sales, there is still a lot of ground still to be claimed. Analysts looked early to the adult industry as a strong decider of the format war. The adult industry is often credited with giving VHS its support, helping the format to edge out Betamax – and some believe that history may repeat itself with the HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc battle. Digital Playground founder and director Joone originally backed HD DVD, but at this year's Adult Entertainment Expo he reportedly told German publication Heise Online that his company will be shifting its support to Blu-ray Disc by the end of the year.
Councilman MikeK Recalls Knievel Action Figure
Top: Young MikeK playing with Evel Knievel action figure; bottom: MikeK receives inspiration from his childhood friends before leaving for a Coeur d'Alene City Council meeting. I had a classic Evel Knievel motorcycle riding action figure when I was a kid. The stunts my brothers and I would stage for that motorcycle toy were legendary (riding out a second story window, chasing the dog around the house without getting chewed to ribbons, you name it). RIP Evel. I wonder what happened to Steve Austin, the Six Million Dollar Man who played the role of Evel's arch-nemesis in the boyhood action figure wars?/Councilman MikeK. Question: What was your favorite action figure/doll when you were little? .
Merkel: No Reason For Pessimism - Web Site
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel sees no reason for pessimism despite recent financial market turbulence, she says in a podcast released on her Web site Saturday. According to Merkel, Germany shows all the prerequisites for continued robust growth in 2008, although growth will likely slowdown somewhat compared to last year. She points out many companies have full order books and unemployment is expected to continue sinking in 2008. She says the lesson to be learned from the turbulent financial markets is that greater transparency is needed for new financial instruments.
