| 50 years of funerals: Dorothy Graham has seen plenty of changes ...
Dorothy Graham, who has been in the funeral service business for 50 years, received the Woman of the Year Award from the Davie Business Women Association at the group's annual dinner. Cathy Boles, president of the Davie organization, said, "I think her longevity in the field is astounding. To start out in an entry level position at age 19 and continually move up through the years to where she now owns a funeral home is a great accomplishment. The members of DBWA congratulate Dorothy on receiving our Woman of the Year Award." Now president of Graham Funeral Home, she had been in the business for 40 years when she decided to go out on her own. "I graduated valedictorian of my graduating class from Davie County Training School in May 1953 at age 16," she recalled.

Trade. That's going to be a campaign issue. I think we need another Ross Perot who will split the Republican vote again. Yeah. That's the ticket. But Ralph Nader, Palease Palease Palease, Ralph, don't run again. By the way, what is that tick in one eye about? It's as if Nader has a split personality. One side is saying "This car is unsafe at any speed" and another side is saying "Hey, let's go for a spin." .
Epsom woman drops 10 dress sizes
Nikki Catling is celebrating the new year, big time. She is heading for the sales with the aim of buying slinky glamorous dresses and tops to show off her size 14 figure. It is a size she never thought she would reach. This time last year she was wearing huge size 24 dresses and her choice of clothing was severely limited. Nikki, from Epsom, who is in her 20s, has lived with a weight problem all her life. When she was 12 she had reached a size 20 and was breathless when she tried to take part in normal activities for children of that age. And it got worse as she got older. She weighed more than 16 stone when she was 16 and the weight crept on and on. .
RCMP not keeping members safe, officer's widow says
I have had many people ask me what do i think. We live in a world of reality where things we think should happen rarely do. Having friends that are officers you get a different view of reality. Does my heart drop when i hear on the news of another fallen officer ...Absolutely. I patiently await the name wondering if it is one of my friends. Do the officers put there lives on the line...Everyday. Do they need backup....Absolutely. Do the officers know what they might encounter, No, they chance their lives everytime they pull over a vehicle or attend to a call. Do they know the outcome, not until it is over , by then it could be too late. Do our officers deserve to die because they choose this career...

They debate intensely about golf revenue, fees, refurbishments, and land acquisition. You could fill a hall with hundreds of golfers to advocate for new sprinklers. If you were firing half the high school English department, I doubt you could match even a fourth of the turnout. For many, golf assumes the trappings of a religion. The club houses can be a chapel; I saw a list of do’s or don’ts on the door of a club house in Dennis which reminded me of the Ten Commandments. Fellowship is stressed here, the ethics of scoring brings in a moral aspect and the role of tradition, and going back to Europe is an important part of golf heritage. Even the harried public administrators of golf courses are like pastors who work untiringly to respond to various constituents. They, like the pope, must provide leadership both for those with their foot on the brake and those with their foot on the accelerator.
Loonie deal for shoppers this holiday season?
Canadian retailers, under fire for not cutting prices while the Canadian dollar is strong, may finally start to do so to lure people away from cross-border shopping during the holiday season. That's good news for inflation control, said a recent report from National Bank Financial. Retailers are under pressure for not lowering prices enough on products ranging from books and magazines to big-ticket items such as cars and furniture. .
Where are they now ...
Growing up, I always had jobs," said Braxton, the Broncos' starting strong safety in Super Bowl XXXII. "When I was playing, I was always busy in the offseason lifting weights and running. Then I just kind of got bored. To me, this has been a blessing in disguise. I got things worked out and I know what I want to do and where I want to be." There's seemingly no end to what he wants to do. Let's start with KRSK Trucking, the company he owns with former teammate Kevin Clark. He's also selling real estate and owns an online travel agency. Then there's the online mall he's setting up. When you're a former 12th-round draft pick, you learn the value of hard work. Braxton's work ethic helped him last 13 seasons in the NFL, 12 with the Broncos. Drugs? Booze? He doesn't have time for them anymore.
