Media Metrix, an e-commerce traffic measurement firm, reported that eBay saw its highest volume of unique visitors overall - 4,073 million - during the peak holiday season between Nov. 22 and Dec. 26. And Amazon.com, which also has auction services, took the number 1 spot, boasting 5,693 million visitors. Internet research company Forrester Research foresaw potent growth in auctions. Analyst Evie Black Dykema made note of the growth possibilities for the then, new e-commerce industry in an Internet marketing research report she compiled back in March 1999. 50 years of funerals: Dorothy Graham has seen plenty of changes ...
Dorothy Graham, who has been in the funeral service business for 50 years, received the Woman of the Year Award from the Davie Business Women Association at the group's annual dinner. Cathy Boles, president of the Davie organization, said, "I think her longevity in the field is astounding. To start out in an entry level position at age 19 and continually move up through the years to where she now owns a funeral home is a great accomplishment. The members of DBWA congratulate Dorothy on receiving our Woman of the Year Award." Now president of Graham Funeral Home, she had been in the business for 40 years when she decided to go out on her own. "I graduated valedictorian of my graduating class from Davie County Training School in May 1953 at age 16," she recalled.
