Aflac Duck Helps Holiday Shoppers Support a Worthy Cause
COLUMBUS, Ga., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- For the seventh consecutive year, Aflac and participating Macy's stores have teamed up to help holiday shoppers find the perfect stocking stuffer -- the 2007 Aflac Holiday Duck. Available in stores today, these collectible plush ducks have been flying off department store shelves since 2001 and have raised more than $1.6 million for pediatric cancer treatment and research centers across the country. "Pediatric cancer affects not only patients but also their families and the community," said Al Johnson, second vice president of Marketing Services at Aflac. "With the help of consumers around the country, this special program will give back to those patients, families and the communities that have been impacted by this disease." This year, the funds generated from the sale of the popular holiday duck will be donated to 34 children's hospitals.

U.S. courts consider legality of laptop inspections
Henri from Montreal posted this. I have news for you Henri! This is no longer true since a US Citizen named Jose Padilla was arrested and convicted on THINKING of attacking the US. Oh, I can hear you all screaming that it happened to him because he's a Muslim terrorist. Well, I have more news for you all. There's something out there called "THE PATRIOT ACT" that nowhere in it's body mentions the word "terrorist". Which means, very clearly by the way, that it can be used against anybody for any reason. And please don't come crying with the "Constitution" thing… The Patriot Act abolished the Constitution, believe it or not. .

Wines becoming liquid asset
Not long ago, Stephen Bachmann, a private-equity investor turned online wine store owner, posted a chart on his widely read blog about wine collecting. The dots on the graphic charted an investment starting at around $1,000 in 2003. They continued on a sustained northerly path -- up 100 percent, up 200 percent -- peaking above $4,000 in 2007. If the average investor's E-Trade account looked like that chart, he would be popping bottles of Champagne. But the chart's subject did not concern the latest hot tech stock. It certainly was not charting the performance of a 401(k) retirement fund. The liquid asset in question was literally liquid: a single bottle of 1990 Petrus, a Bordeaux blend. "If you didn't know what that was, most people would look at that chart and say that looks like a pretty good investment," said Bachmann, the founder of Vinfolio, based in San Francisco.

Numerous area retailers, such as Comp USA and Gander Mountain, opened their doors Thursday night to get a jump on the holiday shopping competition. And again this year most of the stores at Waterloo Premium Outlets in Seneca County opened at midnight Friday and are staying open until 10 tonight. Many other stores opened between 4 and 6 a.m. In the battle for the best Christmas shopping deals, there are winners and there are losers. Jessica Curran, 28, of Maryland, showed up at Kohl's in Greece just after 4 a.m., on the hunt for electronics such as a laptop and a portable DVD player. The line already was so massive, she and her boyfriend, Irondequoit native Matt Hausknecht, didn't even try it. Instead they hit Sears and Dick's Sporting Goods in Greece, walking away with a couple of blenders and two cases of poker chips nice finds, but not what they set out for.
