A real Democrat

John Moynihan will bring the change that is so desperately needed in the state of Illinois. He will provide the representation of the people and not the insider power elite of a party. Putting people before party is what the people need in our representatives to get out of the political quagmire that has stalemated progress in this state.

Spring items, wet cleanup stood out at Wal-Mart debut

I wandered through the new Wal-Mart Superstore in Belleville on opening day Wednesday. It's laid out pretty much like the store in O'Fallon.

I liked all the skylights, though for such a sunny day, the store seemed a bit dim.

I expect the staff will get the self-checkout lanes open soon.

Spring has definitely sprung, because I saw lots of bathing suits, beachy purses and lawn furniture.

Chester Cheetah, the mascot for Cheetos, was near the electronics section, all 7-foot or so of him in an inflatable costume. He was having a hard time attracting children for photos (looks of terror and back-pedaling) while I was there, but adults were stepping right up. As I was checking out the pet supplies at the other end of the store, I couldn't help but laugh when the public address system announced: "We need a wet cleanup by the Cheetos guy."

January 2008

You guys think I stirred up something yesterday with the Plaxico Burress back (and front) page controversy? That ain't nothing compared to what I did on Thursday.

I ticked off a member of Tony Soprano's crew.

You might remember I posted a picture of Joe Gannascoli, who played Vito on The Sopranos, and I … well, I poked a little fun at him because he dyed his dog blue. It seemed a little goofy. In fact, I called it "just plain weird."

Well, I heard from Vito the next day. He is alive and well, despite what Phil Leotardo and crew did to him in that hotel room. And it turns out he's a huge, long-time Giants fan. In fact you've probably heard him talking about the Giants and the NFL on Sirius NFL Radio.

As he tells the story to me, he happened to be at a bagel store in Lynbrook, Long Island and a news crew from Fox TV in New York was there doing a story on blue bagels the store was making.

Finding the right place for your high-tech gizmo

Youve got yourself an iPod. But whats it going to wear? This unlikely question is confronting more and more purchasers of high-end home and personal electronics these days. Buying an iPod, iPhone, cell phone, plasma screen television or Blackberry is more than just a crippling financial transaction. Its a commitment. Something as precious as an iPhone must be properly encased. You wouldnt send your child off to school without clothes, would you? (Maybe you have to. You just bought an iPhone.) Modern electronic items need wraparound chaperones for style or security or a combination thereof. A look at how were dressing some of the trendy gadgets these days. That jogger has an iphone! At the Sharper Image in Scottsdale, Andrew Ortiz has something for joggers who want to stay on the information superhighway.
