Stefan's killer gloats over early release
A teen gang member released from jail just two years after killing another youth in Croydon has described himself "a money makin' machine soon 2 be bak on road". In a series of remorseless rants on his social networking website, the young thug - who was part of a gang who killed Stefan Persaud - talks about his joy at being released from prison early. It is thought the website was set up during the teen's stay in jail but Prison Service bosses have insisted it must have been done by a friend or family member on the outside. The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was caged last year after being convicted of the manslaughter of 16-year-old Stefan. Three other youths, including cousins David and Sean Ramsey and a third, Tyrone Bailey, were jailed for 15 years for murder.
OUTRAGEOUS, RIDICULOUS...GREAT IDEA, BOOST TO RECYCLING - READERS AIR ...
Click here to send us your comments. And see today's Bucks Herald for the full story.-------------------------------------------------------------Your comments so far...The proposed recycling scheme in the area, with fortnightly collections of standard refuse alternating with garden waste and cardboard, is destined to fail in my humble opinion. My father is an Environmental Services Consultant and has worked in this capacity with a number of councils across the UK. The most successful scheme in his opinion is the one recently launched in Somerset - a weekly collection of food waste (even cooked food, meat and bones), kerbside recycling and garden waste (for which bags must be purchased or a bin hired, if required), then a fortnightly collection of 'residual waste' (i.e. everything else!) Using this scheme, the Somerset council aim to increase their recycling figure to 70%! In his very experienced opinion, a fortnightly collection of 'green bin' refuse, which includes food waste (as ours will), just will not work.
Gary Metro: Christmas toys should be fun, not feared
Our return to cooler weather got me thinking about my boyhood and the weeks leading up to Christmas.I'd lay on the living room floor below the driftwood lamp and pore over the toy section of the Sears catalog. My sister did the same. We were doing research for our letters to Santa, so my mom always paid attention, too.Geez it was fun. The catalog was filled with great things and there was a strong connection between the gifts from Santa and the merchandise at Sears. One year I got an Erector set. My sister got a Chatty Cathy doll.Another year I got a toy chemistry lab and a neat little microscope. My sister got an immense stuffed animal. There always were other toys, too.Toy selection didn't cause any special worries for my mom, other than preventing me from shooting my eye out with a BB gun.
Instant Analysis: Kansas
The days of the backyard shade-tree mechanic are long gone. Today's high tech engineering comprises of many engineers and technology in engine building. With the maximum allowable HP of 750HP (I think) for Cup cars, why does it seem some teams appear to have more HP than others? You would think they could achieve the same 750HP. Tom Jensen: Michael: Hello and thanks for being here. There is no maximum allowable horsepower in NASCAR it's whatever the teams can generate. And all the top teams are very, very close in horsepower. Some of the differences you see might be attributable to how specific drivers like their engines tuned. Obviously, everyone wants the most power, but teams sometimes might sacrifice 5-10 horsepower in the interest of fuel economy if they think that will have an impact on the outcome of the race.
