Try clicking not clipping coupons

Supermarket chains are trying out paperless, or digital, coupons to help the thrifty-minded save time while saving money. Shoppers load the online discounts onto their store loyalty cards, receiving credit at the checkout.

Grocers see the innovation as a way to build customer loyalty, drawing consumers who are increasingly spending time online to their Web sites and ultimately, their stores. The move could increase coupon use by attracting shoppers who don't bother with paper coupons. It offers convenience for the companies in reducing handling, tallying and shipping of coupons, as well as cutting paper use.

Kroger Co., the nation's largest traditional grocery chain, and Procter & Gamble Co., the largest consumer products company, are partners in a digital coupon trial that began last month.

Investing: Another sort of wine appreciation

Not long ago, Stephen Bachmann, a private-equity investor turned online wine store owner, posted a chart on his widely read blog about wine collecting. The dots on the graphic charted an investment starting at around $1,000 in 2003. They continued on a sustained northerly path — up 100 percent, up 200 percent — peaking above $4,000 in 2007.

If the average investor's E-Trade account looked like that chart, he would be popping open bottles of champagne. But the chart's subject did not concern the latest hot tech stock. It certainly was not charting the performance of a 401(k) retirement fund. The liquid asset in question was literally liquid: a single bottle of 1990 Petrus, a Bordeaux blend.

Ward Churchill, ACTA and Public Opinion

Those who wish to preserve academic freedom, and I do, would do well to incorporate Neal's concept of responsibility and Eismeier's invocation of Shils. Both are necessary elements of the fix if you want ‘buy in' from a skeptical public.

Jonas Bros. Mobbed ... By Man-Fans?

Jonas Bros. Mobbed ... By Man-Fans?Posted Dec 28th 2007 8:00AM by TMZ Staff

We know the Jonas Brothers make the young girls squeal -- but thirtysomethin' guys? TMZ spotted the Jonases making grand exit from their NYC hotel ... into the waiting arms of a pair of hyperventilating girls, who were nonetheless outnumbered by a smallish group of autograph seekers, all of whom appeared to be older than and equally male as the Bros. Not exactly what one would call their core constituency.BTW -- that bodyguard -- yes, that's Big Rob, Britney's old pal and guardian.

Bill Clinton's Temper Negatively Affects Hillary's Campaign

Why didn't you just send out a f-ing press release. Don't you understand that you can't tell those two anything that you don't want to see on the front page of the Washington Post? They leak everything!

He kept screaming about how he couldn't keep anything confidential because everyone who worked for him leaked. Then he slammed the phone down.

I was shaken.

The phone conversation recalled an even more difficult encounter with his temper.

Many years earlier, in 1990, he seriously overstepped his boundaries with me during one of his blind rages and permanently changed our relationship.

It was during his last gubernatorial race and he was falling behind in the polls. When we met at the governor's mansion, it was close to midnight.
