| WILL CHERIE’S BOOK RUIN BROWN?
The spokesman said the October 2 date was still provisional, adding that major book launches often occurred in October to capitalise on the Christmas market. Mrs Blairs relationship with Gordon Brown was soured by his ambition to replace her husband as Prime Minister. She is said to have been among those urging Mr Blair to sack the Chancellor for disloyalty before the 2005 election. Mr Blairs long-time election agent John Burton told a recent biographer: Shes never wanted to pack it in and thats why shes so furious with Gordon Brown. Another senior official said: Cherie couldnt stand the neighbour. She begged Tony to stay on. She simply couldnt bear the prospect of Brown taking over. Mrs Blair denied calling Mr Brown a liar at the 2005 conference but her husband effectively confirmed it the next day when he joked: At least I dont have to worry about her running off with the bloke next door.
FanFest not FanFriendly?
The Atlanta Braves held their team FanFest this past weekend at the Georgia World Congress Center. The event served as an opportunity for fans to interact with players and coaches, and the event proved to be a big success. In the eyes of some fans, a little too successful. If You're Not Insane About Sound, Maybe You Can Just Go Crazy
With the same music playing on both, participants used a remote control to switch between the two, and then tell me which sounded better. One of the tests compared a high-quality MP3 file from an iPod with a CD on a $3,000 player. Three-quarters of the 24 people taking this test preferred the CD. That was no surprise. However, when I played .wav files on the iPod -- these are digital but uncompressed files; I was connecting the headphone jack to the amplifier -- 52% of the 21 who took this test preferred the iPod. That made me smile, not because snooty audiophiles got the "wrong" answer, but because it suggests great sound can come from popular, cheap gear. I also tested speaker cables, which are controversial even among audiophiles. Some spend tens of thousands of dollars on cabling, while others consider it an absurd waste of money.
