Bulverde Spring Branch Chamber of Commerce
Increased promotions and advertising plus our popular website have strengthened this Chamber, as has member and community support. We thank you all! The first Board of Directors Retreat was held in 2007 resulting in the revision and implementation of the By-Laws and Policies. A restructuring of the Board produced serving-terms for Directors and many long-serving, dedicated, community supporting Directors will be leaving this year, making way for new Directors, new ideas, new enthusiasm and a new direction. A Program of Work is a new objective and 2008 Directors have a good foundation to develop innovative goals. The Executive Board Directors now have one-year terms and the Directors hold two- and three-year terms. The number of Directors has been reduced from twenty to twelve.
Question of the Week: Will high gas prices keep you from traveling for ...
This week's Question of the Week deals with high gas prices and holiday travel. As the price of oil reaches $100 a barrel and gas surpasses $3 a gallon, will the American people hit the road for the holiday season? AAA officials said Thursday that high gas prices will not deter people from traveling for Thanksgiving. According to AAA, a record 38.7 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving holiday, starting Nov. 21. About 80 percent of travel will be by car. The Associated Press reported that Energy Department chief Guy Caruso predicts that gasoline prices, now at $3.11 a gallon nationwide, will climb another 10 cents by December. While travelers will be shelling out more money at the gas pump, AAA says they will pay less for hotels, airfare and car rentals.
For this woman, life isn't business as usual
A week before Christmas 2007 she woke and recalled her memories of Randy on ventilators. And it's the little things she misses the most. Like Raisin Bran with Randy in the morning before work. Dinner together and watching TV on the couch side by side. His notes that read, "Have a good day. See you tonight." There were nights that she still watched out the window, hoping his truck would pull into the driveway. But she prayed to God. She leaned on friends and family. She let her guard down when she most needed it. "Even when you think you hit rock bottom, there's still hope," she said. The road ahead When Sandy goes for her morning walk or run, she thinks about the day ahead, the road ahead. Daily she thanks God for all she has, despite all she has lost.
Why Kenya will not happen in Ghana.
International observers lauded the 2004 poll as one of the cleanest, and almost a 5% point spread between his Excellency J.A.Kuffour and Atta Mills. It is no wonder that even the pathological liar, former president JJ Rawlings could not say the 2004 elections in Ghana was rigged at his just concluded lecture in Abuja. This lie is cooked by Prof. Atta Mills purely for local consumption. NPP will win the 2008 elections convincingly on its superior track record of national achievements in the field of democratic multiparty political governance, the rule of law, control of corruption, stability and control of the microeconomic disturbances of the NDC inflation from 54% to less than 10%, the NDC bank interest rate of 48% to under 20% and the cedi rate of exchange which collapsed from C2,500 in March 2000 to C7,500 in November 2000 of the NDC administration to now four years stability of C9,200 under our government.
Time running out for free home insulation
More than 100 householders in Helston have already taken advantage of a Cornish energy charity's offer of free insulation for their homes. At a time of rising fuel bills, and fears over climate change, the Home Health scheme being run by Community Energy Plus aims to make homes "warmer, healthier and cheaper to run". The charity, working in partnership with Kerrier district council, has enough funding to provide free cavity wall and loft insulation for 300 local households. All privately owned and rented homes with up to four bedrooms are eligible, although housing association and MoD properties do not qualify. More than 3,000 leaflets giving details of the scheme have been distributed to households in Helston and an information day has been held at the Guildhall.
